The Black Box Theatre at Edmonds Community College is excited to announce that during the 2011-2012 school year, it offered over 150 arts and cultural events and welcomed around 8,300 attendees.  These events included dance, music, lectures, films, community events and outstanding student and faculty performances.

The Black Box Theatre also teamed up with Unexpected Productions, Seattle’s longest running improv group, to host weekly improv comedy shows—bringing improv comedy North of Seattle!

As the staff at the Black Box prepare for the 2012-2013 season, they strive to continue to fulfill the mission of the Theatre:

The Black Box Theatre, an educational, events and performance venue, seeks to be a beacon for Enlightenment, Engagement, Education, and Entertainment in our community. The Black Box Theatre seeks to stay Relevant and Progressive as a workshop of Exploration for the students at EdCC and for the community that surrounds it.

The Black Box Theatre is a 200-seat, multi-purpose theater venue with flexible seating that opened on the Edmonds Community College campus in October 2008. The Theatre serves as a community events space to enhance arts education at Edmonds Community College and in Snohomish County through educational outreach programs, community partnerships and performing arts presentations.

The Theater, as an educational resource for the college and region, offers learning opportunities through its Lecture Series and Conversations Series on topics chosen to enhance curriculum and engage students in thoughtful discussions outside of the classroom. The Black Box partners with the Arts, Culture, and Civic Engagement Initiative and with student clubs to increase campus involvement giving students, a greater voice in the programming ideas at the Black Box and creating an environment for engagement, exploration and education.

Stay-tuned as we prepare for the 2012-2012 school year and the 10th anniversary of our Arts, Culture, and Civic Engagement initiative!
